What exactly is The Elder Scrolls?

I'm playing Oblivion for the first time, and I don't quite understand some things.. Is it set in reality? Or some magic world that isn't earth? And what are The Elder Scrolls?

And what is with the Lizard faced people? I don't get the purpose of them. And just a few more questions, sorry: Are you getting Skyrim? And is Skyrim mention at all in Oblivion?What exactly is The Elder Scrolls?
First off, Oblivion is awesome :D. None of the elder scrolls games are set on earth. The whole elder scrolls series is on the planet of Nirn on the continent of Tamriel. Theres a map of Tamriel in sources. Oblivion is in the province of Cyrodiil. The "lizard faced people" are just another race called argonians. The purpose of them is just, to be another race option for the player and to add more variety in the land.



Yes I am definitely getting Skyrim. On 11.11.11. and I think oblivion does have references about the place skyrim, yes. In the imperial city the gates have dragons very similar to the symbol of Skyrim. Also the race, Nords originally came from Skyrim and i think they say that in the race description. All of the games are connected though not directly.



Skyrim is taking place 200 years after the events of oblivion.
