What effect on the storyline of Elder Scrolls III does choosing to be a Dark Elf have?

I remember that there was a change with interactions by choosing to be a Dunmer but I forgot whether it was something major or if it was simply cosmetic.

It doesn't make much difference. People address you as 'Dunmer' but you're still an outlander, so people treat you much the same as if you were one of the other races.
